Xiaomi has joined Apple and Samsung in offering a mobile contactless payment solution in China and it’s the first company to offer “tap to pay” for public transportation. The new Mi Pay feature will arrive on Xiaomi phones that include NFC chips. The Mi 5 is the only phone with NFC.

Mi Pay can be used to pay for public transportation in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangdong, Suzhou, and Wuhan.

The payment option will support cards from 20 Chinese banks to begin with, among which are the Bank of China and China Construction Bank. It also works with China UnionPay, the largest interbank network in the country.
