vivo X21i arrives with 24MP selfie camera, over 90% screen to body ratio

After a series of leaks, the vivo x21i finally got its official unveiling in China.

As expected, the vivo X21i follows closely its vivo X21 siblings in terms of design, hardware and features. There are some notable changes, though – the vivo X21i comes with MediaTek’s Helio P60 as opposed to the Snapdragon 660 on the standard X21 and the front-facing shooter has been bumped up from 12MP to 24MP making the X21i more of a selfie-centric smartphone.

The rest of the specs sheet includes a 6.28-inch (1080×2280) Super AMOLED display with 19:9 aspect ratio and the familiar notch on the top that helps it to an impressive 90.3% screen-to-body ratio. The bezels on the top and the sides are nearly non-existent and the panel is packed inside a 154.73 x 74.98 x 6.99 mm body tipping the scales at 159g.

The vivo X21i has two different memory configurations – 6GB + 64GB and 4GB + 128GB – a strange swap indeed but both are priced equally. The fingerprint reader is placed right below the dual-camera setup that consists of two 12MP sensors aided by an AI scene detection.

The camera can recognize skin tone, gender, environment and applies the most suitable filter. All of this is powered by a 3,425 mAh battery unit and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with FunTouch OS 4.0 on top.

The X21i costs CNY2,698 ($425) for both configuration options – the 6GB + 64GB and the 4GB + 128GB models. It will be available for purchase in China starting May 19 and comes in three colors – Ruby Red, Aurora White and Polar Night Black.
