Sony Xperia Android 7.0 Nougat Update: Official List Of Smartphones, Tablets Revealed By Sony

Through the official Sony Mobile blog, Sony has confirmed the initial set of Xperia smartphones and tablets that will be upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat. However, the company is yet to confirm as to when the roll out of the Android N OS will begin.

On Aug. 22, Google released the Android 7.0 Nougat update to Nexus lineup devices such as Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player. Users of Google Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One) have also receiving the Android N update.

Sony is the first smartphone manufacturer to announce the list of devices that will get Android N. The list includes the following devices: Sony Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra, Xperia X Performance, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z4 Tablet, and Xperia Z3+, the official Sony Mobile blog revealed.

The above list does not include the Sony Xperia E5 that was announced in June. Along with the Android N OS, Sony is also providing new features and functions. It is likely that Android N upgrade will bring along the latest version of Sony Xperia UI.

As mentioned before, the exact release timeframe has not been revealed by Sony. However, it is speculated to release the update soon.

Sony Xperia X Performance can now install preview edition of Android 7.0 Nougat OS by enrolling the Xperia Beta Program. As of this writing, only owners of Xperia X Performance who are located in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden can upgrade to Android N now.

Sony will be present at the upcoming IFA 2016 event on Sept. 1. It is heavily speculated to unleash its next flagship smartphone, the Xperia XR. The leaked renders of the smartphone that have already surfaced indicate that one of the USPs of the phone will be that its front-facing camera will carry support for 4K video shooting.
