The Samsung Galaxy S7 release may still be a few weeks away but we already know several key details and information regarding the device. Recently, AnTuTu, a reputable benchmarking platform, leaked a selection of major specs of the S7 including its expected release date, price, features, and other related rumors.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Review
According to the AnTuTu leak, Galaxy S7 will come with a model number SM-G935A. Besides, it will have a 5.1-inch QHD screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixel. The device will also feature a 12MP primary camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. Additionally, it will run the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box while a 4GB RAM is expected to back its Snapdragon 820 processor with an Adreno 530 GPU. In terms of internal memory, the S7 will have a 64 GB storage capacity.
Samsung Galaxy S7 release date
Samsung has been unveiling its recent flagship devices at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona before releasing them a short while after. And with this year’s MWC expected to be held between February 22-25, it’s highly likely that the S7 will be released around the same time. However, there’s still an outside chance that Samsung could hold a separate event for the release before this show as has been the case with a few other past devices.
Other expected Galaxy S7 features
In terms of design, S7 is expected to remain largely similar to that of its predecessor, Galaxy S6. We all remember the huge departure that S6 had from the S5 especially in terms of built materials and general design. Galaxy S6 came with a more quality built as well as a revamped design that gave it a more modern appearance and feel compared to Galaxy S5. And now it seems this design will be maintained in the S7 as Samsung looks to avoid going for something more radical. The shape of the device is very close to that of S6 although the front-facing camera occupies a different position at the top right corner of the gadget. Besides, its home button takes a somehow slimmer rectangular shape. The device’s sim card slot also takes a position closer to the bottom edge compared to that of the S6.
Samsung has previously used a 5.1-inch, 2560 x 1440 super AMOLED screen on other devices such as the S6 and S6 Edge. Various rumors seem to agree that Samsung could maintain the same display to avoid releasing very big handsets for its flagship device. However, there have also been rumors that Samsung could indeed go for the 5.5-inch screen with their Galaxy S7 Edge that’s expected to serve as the S7 companion handset. Nonetheless, all focus will on whether Samsung finally adopts the full 4K resolution now that the technology has already been unleashed with the release of Sony’s Xperia Z5 Premium.
– Battery size
It’s expected that Samsung will improve on the battery size it used on the Galaxy S6 with the S7 expected to feature a more powerful 3000 mAh battery. This will represent an increase of 450 mAh. Besides, it has been rumored that S7 Edge will feature a 3600 mAh battery which is an increase of 1000 mAh compared to its predecessor S6 Edge’s 2600 mAh.
– Return of the microSD card
A decision by Samsung to drop the microSD slot in the Galaxy S6 didn’t go very well with a majority of users. Seems like Samsung heard the calls and is thus expected to return the slot in both the S7 and S7 Edge variants. As such, both devices will be compatible with microSD cards up to 200 GB.
– Galaxy S7 Price
Going by what we saw with Galaxy S6, We expect that the opening price of the S7 to be quite high, possibly anything upwards of $600. The possible inclusion of a 4K display could force the price to go even higher. Another possible factor that could determine how much this device costs is the variations in base model internal storage which could mean a higher price for a model with 64 GB compared to one with 32 GB.
As usual, we’ll take all these rumors and news with a pinch of salt as we wait for the official details and release. However, you can be sure that this will be another awesome device worth the wait.
