The presence of Apple in India is growing, but the company still has a long way to go before it’ll be one of the top smartphone companies in the market. During 2016, Apple sold 2.5 million iPhones in India, reports Counterpoint Research.
It was 10th overall during the fourth quarter of 2016, although it was responsible for 62% of sales in the premium phone sector ($450+). Apple’s primarily high-end smartphones don’t appeal to the average Indian consumer.
Some of the most popular smartphone makers operating in the Indian market are Chinese companies focused on the low and mid-range. Those include Vivo, Xiaomi, and Oppo.
