Apple is no longer developing an actual vehicle and it is instead focused on creating car-related software/hardware, reports Bloomberg. While the company was at one point interested in building a vehicle, it has abandoned that side of the project. Hundreds of employees have been reassigned to other projects.
Titan, Apple’s car-related project, is now built entirely around an autonomous system that can be sold to other car manufacturers. Apple reportedly wants Titan’s remaining team to create something worthwhile by the end of next year.
The initiative was reportedly a mess for months until Bob Mansfield, a long-time Apple executive, took control in July 2016. Mansfield initiated the shift from a full car to an autonomous vehicle system.
