Apple is no longer working on a complete autonomous vehicle, but it is developing software that can be sold to other car manufacturers. The company’s rumored car OS is under development in Canada, with dozens of employees working on the project, reports Bloomberg.
Among those working on the project are two dozen former BlackBerry QNX employees, all of whom are stationed at an R&D facility in Kanata, Canada. The car OS will operate similarly to iOS in that it serves as the core software for a vehicle. Other bits of software may be developed to work on top of the OS.
Elsewhere in the world, another Apple team is reportedly developing an autonomous vehicle system that’ll be laid on top of the OS.
