Apple is allegedly developing a chip codenamed “T310” for future Mac laptops, which is designed to boost battery life and reduce dependence on Intel chips. The custom ARM-based chip would handle macOS’ “Power Nap” functionality and other low-power features.
At first, the chip would work alongside an Intel processor, but as Apple gets more experienced, it would be surprising to see high-end Apple processor for Macs. The T310 would be a variant of the recently unveiled T1, which is used for the Touch Bar. First Macs with the new chip could be introduced later this year.
