One of Apple’s secret projects may be in the area of internet satellites. Bloomberg reports two executives from Alphabet who were working on space operations and satellite engineering have been hired by Apple.
Those executives are joining a hardware team within Apple that’s led by Greg Duffy, co-founder of Dropcam. Duffy also worked at Alphabet in the past.
It’s possible Apple is focused on satellites for the sake of improving Apple Maps, but it may actually be working on a way to deliver internet from space.
Bloomberg claims the company has spoken with Boeing about this project and it may end up involved in an initiative to send 1,000 satellites to low-Earth orbit.
